Know Your Rights

CIRC and its member organizations are facilitating 'Know-Your-Rights' trainings with immigrant communities across Colorado so that workers and families can protect themselves against the increased raids and unjust local and state enforcement of federal immigration laws.

Recent increases in anti-immigrant sentiment, anti-immigrant legislation, and increased law enforcement attention has cause much uncertainty and confusion within the immigrant community.

Many immigrants are unaware of what their rights are, and are unaware when their rights are being violated. Others are aware of violations, but are afraid to confront the perpetrators.

The recent rash of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that have been taking place in across Colorado, as well as the spread of local and state enforcement of federal immigration laws has created an urgent need to increase the number and geographic scope of CIRC's 'Know-Your-Rights' trainings.

Workers and individuals are afraid to go to work, and those who are deported are often cruelly separated from their families.

To combat this repression, CIRC is holding know your rights trainings in areas where raids and/or enforcement policies are taking place. These trainings will help educate immigrants about their rights if they are approached by law enforcement, and will also focus on worker rights. CIRC is also distributing (with the help of member groups) a variety of know your rights materials in multiple languages across the state.

If you would like to request a 'Know-Your-Rights' training in your area or learn more about the program, please contact CIRC at (303) 893-3500.

High profile artists like Mr. de La Rocha have come out strongly against the criminalization of immigrant communities, and we hope that their words will have an effect on the politicians looking to use immigration as a wedge issue this election season
