CIRC Praises Introduction of Immigration Bill and Congressional Co-Sponsors from Colorado
CIR-A.S.A.P. outlines a progressive vision and workable solution
WASHINGTON-
Today, Representatives of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Asian and Pacific Americans Caucus, Black Caucus, and Progressive Caucus joined Congressman
Luis Gutierrez, to introduce the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for
America's Security Act and Prosperity" (CIR A.S.A.P.) in the House of
Representatives. Among the co-sponsors are four members of Colorado's
Delegation: Congressmen Polis, Perlmutter and Salazar and Congresswoman
Degette.
The bill is a sign of progress and momentum for action on real, common
sense immigration reform this Congress. The following is a statement
from the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition:
"Today marks a critical step in the right direction. Backed by a broad
coalition and with more than 87 co-sponsors, this legislation is the
right step to fix our outdated and unrealistic immigration system.
Nevertheless, we cannot forget that the immigration reform debate is
about real people. Every day, families, workers and our economy suffer
in the absence of a reform package. We urgently need to reach a
solution that is just, humane and moves us to economic recovery.
We applaud Congressman Gutierrez along with Congressmen Polis,
Perlmutter and Salazar and Congresswoman Degette for insisting we move
on this crucial issue We now turn to the rest of the Colorado
Delegation, asking that they help get a bill to the President in 2010."
