Immigration Reform Remains Priority in Wake of Massachusetts Election

Denver, CO- The following is a statement by Julien Ross, Executive Director of the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition:

Following Tuesday's senatorial race in Massachusetts, the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition reiterates its commitment to winning comprehensive immigration reform in 2010. Our current broken immigration system requires bipartisan leadership. This year provides a critical opportunity for both parties to prove that they can work together and deliver solutions.

Today, the economy weighs most heavily on the minds of Americans, and Congress must act quickly to address this crisis. Fixing our outdated immigration system is a key step to economic recovery. According to a report released last week, comprehensive immigration reform will add $1.5 trillion to the US economy by driving up wages for all workers, supporting nearly a million jobs and bringing more people into the tax system.

CIRC and its members will continue to work towards a workable solution that upholds our nation's values and benefits workers, families, and the economy.
